Reduce the Computer Clutter

Task: defrag your computer/delete emails & apps

Computer clutter adds up, but it is not always seen like the piles and stacks of material things at your feet. Our emails accounts can contain hundreds, even thousands of emails.  We keep all kinds of old files in memory taking up unseen space.  There are apps for this and apps for that that clutter up our screen.  Digital photos and videos also contribute to storage issues.

Two things you should do annually or more often depending on how much you use your computer. First, run the Disk Clean Up function.  Every time you search, information is stored in the temporary internet files or cache.  It eats up valuable space on your hard drive and may even cause your computer to freeze.  This information is easy to clean out. In the SEARCH box, type in disk cleanup and follow the instructions.

Defragmenting can also help.  Your computer stores bits and pieces of files wherever there is space. Gaps are created on the hard drive.  Defragmenting closes the gaps to help your computer run smoothly.  It may take an hour or longer to complete this process. You can schedule this to be done automatically. Go to start>all programs>accessories>system tools>disk defragmenter.  You can also type in defragment in the SEARCH box.

Delete emails that are not pertinent like, “LOL” or “Thanks.”  Set up folders in your email account to categorize emails that are important.

Eliminate duplicate photos, photos that are out of focus or poor exposure.  Save photos to iCloud, Airdrop, Dropbox or other cloud service.  Or put them on a thumb drive as a backup.

God gave Joshua instruction on how to stay focused.  When you approach any organizing project, be strong and not intimidated by the volume.  Be focused to stay on task, even if it is only for one-half hour. Close the door to your office. Turn the phone off. Say a pray then begin.
