Papers, papers everywhere…
…and not a place to sit!
Task: Clear your desk.
Pr.3:5-6 "Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; in all your way acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths."
Without a doubt, paper is the plague of the 21st century. With all our technological advances and dreams of paperless offices, paper is still the #1 culprit of disorganization…go figure! As professional organizers, it’s still our number one reason we are called in on a job. If our clients are afraid to clear the paper clutter off the desktop or kitchen counter because putting the papers away will make them forget where they are, then know that you are not alone in your quest for solutions. Newspapers, catalogues and magazines take up so much room in homes that sometimes finding a place to sit can be difficult at best. Sometimes just the thought of throwing out information can cause anxiety more than any other object.
There are three major reasons our client’s fear the problems with paper.
Fear of needing something so we keep it all! IRS, bills, contracts, etc. Paper holds a lot of important information we are afraid of losing.
Fear of losing it in a file or pile so we make lots of little special piles for our special papers.
What is the antidote for the fear? Trust!
In Exodus Chapter16 Verses 4-19 God speaks to Moses “I will rain down bread from heaven for you. The people are to go out each day and gather enough for that day. …The Israelites did as they were told; some gathered much, some little… Each one gathered as much as he needed. And then Moses said to them, No one is to keep any of it until morning. However, some of them paid no attention to Moses; they kept part of it until morning, but it was full of maggots and began to rot.”
Manna was the tiny honey tasting wafer the Israelites ate that was chock full of minerals and vitamins straight from Father’s grocery supply store. What did he asked his children to do? Gather only what you need for the day. If you hoarded or stored extra, what happened? It became rotten and coated with maggots.
Think of the paper information stream like Manna. If you need it in the future, our Father will be sure to direct you to that information source and it will be current and fresh and better than if you held on to the old information. The problem with paper management is our trust or lack thereof. The Israelites had to trust God to supply their needs daily.
One can also think about the clothes as Manna (or anything else for that matter). God supplied his children with what food they needed for the day with the manna. Eliminating the past objects, wardrobe items etc. in our homes, frees us to the new and BETTER things he has in store for us when we really begin to rely and trust Him. We keep hanging on to the old things and behavior ways because that is all we have known. We don't realize the abundant and wonderful provisions he has for us because we hang on to the old stuff out of fear. Trust that He will supply what we need and toss the old to make room for the NEW and BETTER!
